To calculate the weekly performance on my portfolio I take the close from last Friday to work out the percentage increase/decrease in each stock. This is compared to the ASX 200 (Code: XJO) and the Small Ords (XSO). The Small Ords is comprised of companies included in the ASX 300 index, but not in the ASX 100 index. I include the Small Ords in my comparison as it helps highlight the markets appetite for risk.
Market: | Close (Friday 29/10/11): | Close (Friday 04/11/11): | Percentage Change: |
XJO | 4353 | 4281 | -1.65% |
XSO | 2434 | 2395 | -1.60% |
The Market was sold off earlier in the week on fears the European Bailout Package was going to be put to a referendum in Greece. By the end of the week these fears had all but been dispelled and we rallied strongly on Friday. As a result both the XJO and XSO ended the week down -1.65% and -1.60% respectively.

My portfolio outperformed strongly this week with OBJ continuing to see some strong buying after their recent announcement on the US Patent approval. OBJ finished the week up 0.001c or 4.55%.
The best performer was however, MHM, which released a long awaiting US Salt Slag/Black Dross supply agreement on Friday which pushed the share price to an intra-day high of 92cents. Unfortunately there were a few conditions associated with the contract which I think held us back from closing near those highs. MHM did however manage to increase by almost 10% for the week.
KGL was also up slightly (3.09%) and closed at 0.10. As a result the portfolio increased by 2.33% for the week, outperforming the broader market by almost 4%.
Code: | Weighting: | Share Price Friday (29/10/2011) | Share Price Friday (04/11/2011) | Percentage Change: | Weighted Change: |

KGL | 36.47% | 0.097 | 0.100 | 3.09% | 1.13% |
TOTAL | 4.81% |
Removing cash from the equation shows an weighted increase across all the stocks of 4.81%.
