December Monthly Report

December Monthly Report

I have just run the numbers for the December monthly report and the funny thing is I don’t remember it being as bad as the numbers suggest. I guess I may have become accustom to the fairly poor markets we have been experiencing for the last six or so months. Anyway, on to the numbers:

Market:
Close November
Close December
Percentage Change:
XJO
4119
4056
-1.53%
XSO
2315
2209
-4.58%

The ASX 200 (XJO) dropped by 1.53% during the month, however, the real pain was felt in the small cap space with the index being dragged 4.58% lower. Clearly the appetite for risk was non-existence and traders/investors were happy to dump their more speculative holdings.

November was a strong month for my portfolio, so I did expect a little bit of a pull back, but the 7.62% fall was certainly more than I expected. Especially with the good news surrounding MHM and the impending release of new of Andash and Jervois by KGL.

The worse performing stock was MHM that was smashed 17.39%. The market clearly needs more details on their US operations before any meaningful re-rate in the stocks share price. OBJ and KGL also fell with a fall of 9.52% and 7.69% witnessed in each stock respectively.

Removing cash paints an even uglier picture with the stocks falling by 11.07%. I know my portfolio is largely a waiting game until the company’s I invest in are able to achieve their predicted milestones but it is never easy seeing figures like that.

The portfolio as a whole remains 3.92% underwater which is not too bad considering the market we are in. I expect this figure will drastically change in 2012 as we start to see some more concrete and positive news flow from each company in the portfolio (IMO).
